Participating in a Town Hall
A participant can perform a number of Town Hall functions:
View the Town Hall Directory
To view a list of past and future Town Halls, click Explore
on the menu from the gear icon on the top banner of your community page. Click Town Halls
on the page to view Town Hall Directory . You can sort your Town Halls using the following filters:
- All: A list of all Town Halls you will be attending, or have attended. This includes upcoming, active, and archived Town Halls.
- Upcoming: A list of Town Halls you will be attending as a member, Speaker, or Moderator. This includes all upcoming Town Halls.
- Archived: A list of Town Halls you have attended as a member, Speaker, or Moderator.
You can also sort the list for the following: Date
, Most Questions
, Fewest Questions
, Most Members
, and Fewest Members
Town Halls you are attending are denoted by a gray Attending
button. If you decide not to attend, you can click the Attending
button, which changes to a red Leave
button when you hover over it. To join any of the other active or upcoming Town Halls, click the green Join
View a Town Hall
Any community member can view a public Town Hall by selecting the meeting from the directory list. The Town Hall profile page displays general information about the meeting such as the title, description, scheduled date and time, the speakers, and moderators.
Community members can view and participate in the conversation before and during the meeting. People do not need to RSVP or attend in order to participate.
tab displays Speakers and Moderators. The Stats
tab displays the number of people who have viewed the Town Hall, the number of Questions already asked, and the number of Likes attached to questions and comments in the conversation.
Attend a Town Hall
Community members who plan to attend a Town Hall can RSVP by clicking the Join
button on the Town Hall Directory or on the Town Hall profile page.
Once you join, the public Town Hall you are planning to attend appears on your Public Spaces on the left navigational panel and your Town Hall page shows two buttons, Attending
and Add to Calendar
. If you decide not to attend, you can click the Attending
button, which changes to a red Leave
button when you hover over it.
Add a Town Hall to your Calendar
Once you've decided to attend a Town Hall, Socialcast makes the event easy for you to remember. To add a Town Hall to your calendar, click the Add to Calendar
button on the Town Hall profile page. An .ics calendar file is downloaded automatically to your computer. The .ics file includes the following information about the Town Hall:
- The name of the Town Hall.
- A link to the Town Hall profile page.
- Town Hall start/end date/time.
After you review the information on the .ics file, save & close to you add it to your calendar.
Participate in the Conversation
Any community member can ask a question in a public Town Hall by entering text in the share box and clicking on the Ask
button. Like other messages, a Town Hall question appears in the author’s Sent stream and messages can be edited or deleted using the gear icon on the right side of the share box.
Other participants can respond to the question with a Like, Answer, Thank, or Share. Depending on how the Town Hall was set up, participants may or may not be able to comment on questions and answers. See Scheduling a Town Hall

Upload a File
Any community member can upload load a file to a public Town Hall by using the share box functionality. Once the file has been selected, click the Ask
button to upload it to the Town Hall.
After the file has been uploaded, it can be viewed and downloaded by other Town Hall members in the Files
tab. Files can be sorted by Name
, File Type
, and Date Added
If the Allow members to see questions before they have been answered by a speaker
setting is disabled, community members and Town Hall participants can only see files after a question has been answered by a Speaker.
