A Trends Extension shows a real-time overview of your Socialcast community’s trending topics, most active discussions, most active groups and most interesting people. This extension is a good way to increase community adoption by allowing external users to get the pulse of the community.
Google Gadgets: Be aware that you cannot create a Google Gadget that contains a Trends Extension.
The user visits a page containing a Trends Extension and sees a snapshot of recent community activity:
When the user clicks on any buttons or links within the extension, Socialcast will open in a new browser window and display the selected message, user, or topic. If the user is not logged in, Socialcast will prompt them to do so.
Security: As with Discussion and Stream Extensions, you can require users to log in before they can view a Trends Extension.
To create a Trends Extension, follow the instructions in Setting up a Reach Extension. On the Configuration screen in the wizard, you have several unique configuration options.
Select the type of trends you want to display in the extension. The small trends appear in a small box and the large trends appear in a larger box. You can choose up to three small trends, but only one large trend. If you change your mind about which large trend to use, you must uncheck the first large trend before you can select the other one.
You may need to experiment with different trend types and layouts (see next item) before you find the combination that works best for your business situation. You can see exactly how the extension will look when you click the Save & Continue button and the Look & Feel page appears. Feel free to make changes and then shift back and forth between the Configuration and Look & Feel pages until you’re happy with the results.
|Layout||Choose the layout of the trend blocks. The available layout options depend on the number of trends you chose in the previous section. You can see exactly how the extension will look when you click the Save & Continue button and the Look & Feel page appears.|
|Date Range||Select the timeframe for the Trends information. You can show trends during the past week, the past month, or the past three months.|
